Why Effective Communication and Soft Skills Matter for Student Success

Effective communication is the Key

Effective communication is the crucial element for success for both personal and professional realms. It drives collaborations, fosters growth in the educational environment. By honing the communication skills abilities individuals present themselves more confidently, can contribute more in team work and can create stronger connections.

Recently DC Jain Real Estate Services in partnership with Anudip Foundation hosted an interactive session focussed on Communication and soft skills essentials, conducted by Ms Diksha Ranjan who is the social media manager. Ms Diksha, delivered the sessions not only theoretically but  making it more lively and interactive.

Significance of Communication in Everyday Life

Communication involves more than just merely talking, it encompasses the ability to listen, understand and then reply appropriately. Ms Diksha highlighted the importance of effective communication, which first begins from family, then expands to friends, institutions and professional space. It made students understand that honing effective communication can pave the way for opportunities, career growth and assurance.

Practical Training Methods

The sessions highlighted daily life practical strategies such as:

  • Active listening with complete focus, refraining from interruptions.
  • Clear Speaking by using simple words, easy to understand and adjusting the tone according to the audience.
  • Effective Writing by ensuring messages are brief , professional and logically structured.
  • Non-Verbal Communication involves maintaining eye contact, using hand gestures, and a warm smile aligning with the spoken words.

Round Table Discussion

Students participated in Round table discussions, where they openly shared their thoughts, fear, insecurities, anxieties about communication and expressing themselves publicly. Initially, students felt hesitant, but Ms Diksha encouraged them to stand up and have a time of self introduction and explain the significance of communication. It helped them to overcome their fear of expressing themselves in front of 30 classmates.

This interactive session involved all forms of communication, which helped students to practically implement the techniques to communicate effectively. Such as correct posture, eye contact, hand gestures and confidence.

Interactive Quiz Competition

In order to make the session interactive and enjoyable Ms Diksha conducted  a quiz contest, where students answered practical questions. Such as, what is the difference between verbal and non-verbal communication?, what challenges one would face during non-verbal communication?. Through this quiz session students were able to think critically and come up with practical real time solutions.

Students Takeaways

The students left the session feeling more confident, particularly in terms of their capacity to speak. They become more conscious of their body language, facial expressions. Through the round table discussion they developed a practical understanding of communication, obstacles and ways to overcome them. The session’s interactive approach promoted a sense of teamwork and trust, allowing students to support and learn from each other.

They were able to understand that communication is a skill, which is an ongoing practice that evolves with time based on one’s dedication and experience.
