Connectivity in Gurugram: In the decision that aims to transform urban transportation in Gurugram, the Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has sanctioned the construction of a new 6- lane elevated corridor extending from Vatika chowk to NH-8. It is designed after the successful Dwarka expressway
This corridor is intended to facilitate uninterrupted travel between Delhi and NH-8 and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Thereby, significantly reducing congestion of the southern Pheripheral Road (SPR).
GMDA Official said, “ Detailed deliberation is currently going on and we are also factoring in infrastructure proposed to be built along the stretch.
The corridor will be designed not just for today’s needs but also for the mobility requirements of the future. While we are in process of finalising design, the detailed project report is currently being prepared”
Seamless Travel from Shiv Murti to Sohna Highway Set in Motion
The recently sanctioned elevated corridor aims to maintain continuous traffic movement form Shiv murthi in Delhi to NH-8, subsequently onto NH- 248A.
It is a significant achievement in the transformation of Gurugram’s transportation network.
This initiative was firstly proposed in 2019 as a part of a larger strategy for the re-development of Southern Peripheral road (SPR).
In 2022, a proposal received administrative approval that outlined the construction of eight flyovers and the expansion of the SPR to a 6-lane roadway.
Now, with a more advanced design similar to that of the Dwarka Expressway, the project has been rejuvenated and transformed into a high-capacity elevated corridor.
GMDA’s Most ambitious project
GMDA’s board has sanctioned Rs 750 Crore for the project, out of which RS 620 is for the construction and Rs 130 Crore is for land acquisition.
Residents said on Monday that SPR needs to be re-developed.
“Traffic volume on SPR has gone up over the past few years and during peak hours, vehicles come to crawl. Any effort for road repairs will not have lasting impact as new projects are coming rapidly, and traffic volume will only grow. A re-development project is needed,” said Rohit Malik who lives in sector 69.
A Landmark Leap towards Gurugram’s future-ready mobility
The Vatika Chowk Elevated Corridor marks a significant milestone in Gurugram’s infrastructure development. With a budget of ₹750 crore, a cutting-edge design, and a progressive approach to future transit this initiative will not only showcase the accomplishments of the Dwarka Expressway but also enhance connectivity in one of India’s swiftly growing cities.
